Eric Wiggin & Kate Douglas Wiggin

About the Author
Kate Douglas Wiggin (nee Smith, 1856-1923) was born in Philadelphia. As a child she moved with her mother and sister to Portland, Maine, near her mother's birthplace. Kate became a founder of the American school kindergarten movement. Kate Wiggin's books include Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1903) and New Chronicles of Rebecca (1906). It is on these two volumes that Books 1 and 2 of the present Rebecca series are based.

Eric E. Wiggin was born in Albion, Maine, near where the Rebecca story is set. His grandparents, with whom he shared his childhood, were contemporaries of Kate Douglas Wiggin. From them, from others of Kate's generation, and from his own experience, he gleaned the material for Book 3 of the series. Wiggin now lives with his wife, Dorothy, in Muskegon, Michigan. The Wiggins are the parents of one girl and 3 boys, as well as several grandchildren. Wiggin has been a pastor, secondary school teacher, and college English instructor, as well as a Maine coastal fish plant worker, news reporter, and editor.
