Langmyer’s account combines flowing narration, factual summaries, historic photographs, engravings, maps, antique postcards from his extensive collection and current photographs to tell the story of this vast inland sea. Starting with the creation of Lake Erie during the Ice Age, the story describes the lake’s discovery by Europeans, the battles for its control, how people settled and developed the region around the lake, and how the population grew along its shores. The Circle of Cities and Towns section of chapters is most comprehensive. It covers the history of large to very small municipalities around the lake and includes past and present views. The author also takes the reader behind the scenes aboard a 1,000-foot lakeboat, the Walter J. McCarthy Jr., on a journey up the Great Lakes.

About the Author:
Tom Langmyer was born in Buffalo, New York and has been fascinated with the Great Lakes from an early age. He has read about the lakes, traveled around them and spent much of his life near them. He holds a bachelor's degree from Grove City College in Pennsylvania. For more than 25 years, he has worked in the field of broadcasting. Langmyer is currently Vice President and General Manager of WGN Radio in Chicago. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and several other organizations. He enjoys history, travel, reading, photography, cycling, kayaking and playing ice hockey. He is also a private pilot. Langmyer lives in the Chicago area with his wife and two children, and makes frequent trips back to the shores of Lake Erie.
